Who is Dr Berger |
You probably have come to this website looking for help, information and answers. You may be thinking, "Who is Dr Berger and can he really help me?".
I 'd like to try and answer that question for you.
I also recognize that you may be feeling a little nervous about reaching out and asking for help, and that is understandable. Most of us are nervous when we
contemplate change and when we need to ask for help. I'm not going to tell you that you should not be nervous or not have concerns or reservations. But I will tell you that these
reactions are normal and that, if you contact me for help, I will do everything humanly possible to minimize your concerns and fears.
I have seen all too many people who are unhappy, depressed, or anxious; people with self-doubt, problem behaviors, or interpersonal problems ...people who could have found happiness and contentment if only
they knew what questions to ask, what type of help was available, where to find answers, and who to contact.
I am a caring person who is a practicing psychologist, therapist and coach because I enjoy helping others; and, while I am also, by necessity, a business man, my greatest
interest and enjoyment in life is in helping others.
A little more about myself both personally and professionally.
"A journey of 1,000 miles must begin with a first step."
... (ancient Chinese proverb)
I find the above proverb to be as wise as it is timeless. The proverb has been, for both myself and my clients, a very valuable guide and motivator. I personally and professionally
have taken many first steps and many journeys. Not just journeys to physical places, but steps and journeys to strengthen the physical, emotional, and spiritual parts of my being.
I know how difficult the few first steps can be when personal change is involved. I have been very successful in my “journeys” and in helping others to take their first steps
and complete the journey they have set for themselves.
For the past 40 years, my life has centered on five main areas: 1) raising two wonderful children to successful adulthood; 2) my commitment to helping others; 3) developing,
maintaining and advancing my professional skills; 4) maintaining a healthy lifestyle and healthy body; and last, but not least, 5) continuing to expand myself personally.
I am very close to, and proud of, my two grown daughters and sons-in-law, each of whom has been extremely successful in there own right. Each of them has established
a successful personal and professional life. However, busy as they are, they still have the time and desire to interact with their “Dad”, several times each week.
I have also been blessed with three beautiful and, of course, brilliant, granddaughters and a brother and sister-in-law who themselves are committed to helping others (visit their website,
www.disabledtravelersguide.com).
I work hard at keeping myself mentally and physically healthy. I exercise rigorously 4-5 times per week. I eat healthy foods, and look, feel, and have the energy of a much younger
person. I am constantly exploring new places and new ways to grow both personally and professionally. I have traveled all over the world and celebrated my 55th year on the planet by climbing 18,500
feet to Mt. Everest Base Camp. That was followed recently by my climb to the peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro at 19,500. These climbs were not "really" dangerous and did not require technical
climbing skill. What they did require is what I preach, teach, and practice -- dedication (in this case to get and stay in good physical condition), a very strong desire and commitment to reach a
goal, an iron will to not give up, and to literally take that proverbial one step at a time until the goal has been reached. |
Professional Area of My Life |
This leads into the professional area of my life.
I earned my Doctorate in Psychology in 1968, at the age of 24, and I have been helping people ever since. I have received extensive post-doctoral training and hold
the most advanced professional certifications and national recognitions possible in my field. Both the American Board of Professional Psychology and the American Board of Forensic Psychology
have awarded me advanced professional recognition and Diplomate Status.
I began my professional career by teaching and, in 1970, I started a private practice as a psychologist. The private practice involved working with clients in
the areas of Clinical psychology
as well as School and
Forensic psychology. Several
years later I expanded the practice to include Life and Personal Coaching.
Additionally, in 1986, I founded a non-profit adoption agency, Adoption Services. I am licensed in multiple
states and have provided help to men and women all over the U.S. and in many foreign countries.
I taught at the undergraduate and graduate level at the University of Oklahoma, University of Pittsburgh, Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic, Hahnemann Medical
College, and Penn State University. I have been the chairperson of a national forensic mental health organization and have been a mental health consultant in many states.
I have over 38 years of experience successfully helping hundreds of men and women change and improve their personal and professional lives. I have helped normal, healthy,
and successful men and women. I worked in state psychiatric hospitals and helped the most severely disturbed and psychotic men and women the world produces. And, I have worked
with, and helped, people in between these two extremes.
My training, credentials and experiences as a psychologist, therapist and coach are unique. They have allowed me to develop a special insight and ability to help produce
rapid and positive results for a worldwide clientele of men and women, all of whom are on a journey to increase and expand the depth and quality of their lives.
Areas of special expertise include:
- Skill development and techniques to combat depression, stress, anxiety, lack of self-confidence, sexual concerns, addictions, fears, phobias and trauma
